Update on my trip

Hey guys! Just updating you all on my trip! I arrived at NCCAT, which is a center for the advancement of teaching in the mountains around lunch time today. The weather is amazing and the leaves are even prettier! We had our first session today. It was nice being a student again (you know, besides bus driver training). Tomorrow we start early but I am excited I get to go hiking! Please be good for the sub! I know you will!

Vocab quiz will be next Wednesday on both sets of words in short answer form.

In addition, all students need to bring in materials to build their globe.

Students should collect materials over the weekend to start building their globe project. In addition, they need to make sure they have completed their brain teasers and scaled sketch of their globe.

Monday, October 15

Students worked and finished their sketches of the Globe today with their partner. They started on the brain teasers, they will have 25 min. tomorrow to continue working on them. My suggestion is to call their partner and work on them over the phone tonight to ensure they have enough time to finish them.

In addition, student's "orgin of their name" essay is due tomorrow.

Please remind students that they should wear old clothes and prepare to walk in mud for tommorrow's field trip to the maize.

Need: We need all kinds of supplies to build the globes. Anything from construction paper to sticks. Please send in odds and ends that could be used in making the Globe. Thank you!

Student's should be working on their "Name Origin" Essay. We broke the essay down into steps. The first step is for the child to interview their parent about how they got their name. If your child has not asked you, please remind them! These essays are due Friday 16th.

Enjoy the long break!
Please don't forget to bring back your premission slip!

Tuesday, October 6

LC1 needs to complete grammar page 282. They will have a semi-colon/colon quiz Friday.

All students received a new writing assignment that requires them to complete research to figure out the "origin of their name." We have broken down the steps and they wrote them out on the directions. They are as follows:

1. Interview parents about your name (First and Last) and write down your questions and their answers. For example, if I would have been a boy, what would my name have been? How did you come up with my name? etc.

2. Research the origin of your name. Origin means the place where something begins. Do this with both your first and last name. Print your findings.

3. Brainstorm how you feel about your name. More than I like it or hate it;but, how it has become who you are. For instance, my name Jade Love has given me a lot of attention over the years. I would then go on to explain some of that attention. (They will turn in their brainstorm).

4. Using steps 1-3, students will then write their 400 word essay (MLA format, Times New Roman, Doubled Spaced) including all of the above.

Due Friday, October 16th: interview, research, brainstorm, and final draft of essay.
Students are out of school Mon.-Wed. next week. They should use that time to complete this assignment.
